November Ministry Update

Fall is here!!! October has been super ham packed! We started the month of with fall camp! All of our Denton FOCUS students went over to Mt. Lebananon and spent just 24 hours away from Denton!  That 24 hours were packed with time with their core, games, snacks, and worship. Fall camp is a great opportunity for new students to really get plugged in and make friends in our community; where friendships are already formed, there is space to deepen those friendships! While there, we had two sermons that introduces our theme of “All In”! We talked about not only do we need to be all in for God, but we also talked about all in being about diversity and just as the kingdom of God is diverse and full of people from every tongue and every nation, we too should be striving to make disciples of all nations!

This was one of the many groups of students playing games all weekend! Popular favorite games were: Spicy Uno, Spoons, and Code Names!

Such a big part of fall camp were the snacks! We had a plethora of different snacks that were consistently being refilled all weekend long! I was in charge of buying all of the snacks and getting them to fall camp and even though I knew it would be a lot of food, I didn’t know it would THIS much! I had to get the help of some of my fellow Denton apprentices!

The staff and our significant others went to the state fair while it was in town! What a blast it was to spend time with each other and enjoy the different parts of life together! One of my favorite oaparts was getting to ride the Farris Wheel at night! It was so beautiful to see the park from a birds eye view! We also went on the perfect weather day! It was the only day that ever it wasn’t raining! We had perfect fall weather!

This is Kristen! She is on the Denton staff and she is also my roommate! I have loved getting to live life and do ministry with her. I am learning that we are very similar and so she has been a constant encouragement to me! We enjoy grabbing dinner from Chicken Express or Panda Express whenever we both have a free night! We recently went to a conference and matched!

We are having all of our student leaders lead an outreach time. Outreach is a way we reach out to students on our campus and start conversations with them and help them to start thinking about deeper things. This was the first student led outreach and it was the most successful time we've had all semester! Students were very engaged in conversations with us and that was cool to see to hear about people's responses!

At the end of this month, I gave my first sermon at our Friday Night Fellowship! We have been going through a sermon series on the Fruits of the Spirit and so I spoke about peace. Writing this sermon was very humbling and so encouraging. I love getting to learn more and more about the different aspects of being a campus minister. These are some of my sweet friends who came to visit and support me!

To end the month, we attended a FOCUS wide Leadership Conference! We heard from so many different speakers across our Metro Family of Churches! We talked about the authority that scripture has and how we can use scripture and stories to minister to people.

Thank you for all of your love and support! Thank you for your prayers for our students and staff! <3

  1. Hey Brittany! Thanks for the update. It looks like your Fall Camp was a blast!

I'm really interested in how you guys are doing student-led outreach? Are they coordinating in groups or is each student leader individually planning something? That seems like a neat way to encourage more participation in reaching out to the campus!
